It is true that the Redon/Redivac bottle contains more volume of liquid (if there is no air leakage). On the other hand the recharging of the Bellovac/Exudrain/Abdovac bellows /bulb is easily done, without breaking the closed system.
The suction capacity of the bellows/bulb is about 220 ml/110 ml, which means that – as a rough average – the bellows/bulb may have to be compressed 3-5 times before removal. This refers surgery on the hip and knee where the post-operative bleeding normally is rather high. With other standard operations the need for recharging is very much reduced.
The bellows/bulb can be recharged at any time during the suction phase, whether full or not. Why not give the bellows/bulb a squeeze at the same time as you look after the patient anyway?
The total capacity of Bellovac/Exudrain /Abdovac is 220/110/110 + about 700 ml in the bag, altogether about 8-900 ml. This even exceeds the capacity of Redon/Redivac.
