I sometimes see fat in the blood, what should I do?

The microfilter in the transfusion set removes fat particles that are larger than 40 microns. There exist no case reports of problems connected to fat embolism when using the filtering technique. If you want to even further reduce the fat content in the re-infused blood, avoid re-infusing the last 20-30 ml in the autotransfusion bag. This is where the largest share of the fat is found.
